Animal Crossing Tip: get fossils assessed before you sell them

I’m Bobby Jack, I’m a big fan of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and I’m putting together a series of tips for the game.

If you’ve been playing ACNH for a while, you’ve probably reached the stage where you’ve collected all 73 different types of fossil. But don’t worry, they’re still a handy source of income, so long as you get them assessed first!

A standard fossil, dug straight from the ground, won’t earn you much:

That offer of 100 bells is, frankly, insulting, given the time it takes not only to dig up, but page through all the Timmy & Tommy dialogue. Of course, the drop-off box saves at least ten seconds, but it drops the price even further:

Instead, take the time to go get it assessed by Blathers:

Yes, you’ll have to sit through even more dialogue than at Nook’s cranny…

…but that extra time is well worth it when Tommy offers forty times the original fossil’s price!

Given the fossil spawn rate, this should net you 16,000–20,000 bells per day. If you can afford to wait, and also have the spare storage room, you can stockpile fossils and get Blathers to assess as many as you can carry, all in one go.
